A filling is when we restore a tooth with a composite filling that matches the color of your teeth. Your filling is made of the most up-to-date material available and should last for many years. Here is what you can expect after your visit and some home instructions:
Composite fillings harden instantly and are ready for normal use right away; however, you will be numb for an hour or two after your visit, depending on your metabolism, so we recommend that you do not chew anything until the anesthesia wears off. This is to prevent biting and injuring your cheek, lip, or tongue.
If your bite does not feel balanced when you start chewing food, please call us as soon as possibleand come in within a week for a simple adjustment.
Your tooth or teeth may be sensitive from the procedure for up to a few weeks. Usually the deeper the cavity the more sensitivity. If your sensitivity gets worse over the next few days or lasts last longer than three weeks, then contact us immediately for further evaluation.
Proper home care is essential for your fillings to last as long as possible. Be sure to brush and floss twice daily, using proper technique, and schedule regular cleanings at the recommended frequency.
