Pediatric Dentistry

Dr. Modrell has additional training and extensive experience in pediatric dentistry. She is gentle, pleasant, and has extensive experience caring for children. She is especially passionate about teaching good habits to ensure that all her pediatric patients grow with a healthy smile. As a mother of three young children, she understands parents' concerns and listens. She is always happy to accommodate children's special needs and is happy to explain to parents all the options they have regarding their child's treatment. At Dr. Modrell's office, children actually enjoy coming to the dentist!

Here are a few things our pediatric patients enjoy:

  • A warm family environment
  • A positive, supportive, relaxing experience
  • A doctor and staff that listen, understand, and accommodate the needs of the child
  • Convenient scheduling for school check ups
  • The latest technology including digital x-rays, and topical anesthesia
  • Digital entertainment including music, TV, and iPads
  • And, as always, great surprises for the little ones in our toy chest!

We see pediatric patients from infants to teens and Dr. Modrell will provide you with the tools and information you need on the proper care of your child's teeth at each growth phase. We will keep you up to date on the latest in dental research, techniques, and products to help your child grow and develop healthy teeth and supporting structures that will last a lifetime.

From infancy to 5 years old, both baby teeth and permanent teeth are growing. You should schedule your child for regular dental checkups during this important period so Dr. Modrell can check the development of your child’s teeth and give you practical information on their dental care. For instance, did you know that putting your infant to bed with a bottle is one of the worst things you can do for his or her teeth? Milk left to sit on a sleeping child’s teeth leads to rapid tooth decay and unnecessary dental treatment.

Between the ages of 6 and 12, children are starting to be more independent and this is a good time to reinforce the importance of good dental hygiene. Children in this age group get a personalized evaluation and instructions on how to take care of their oral health based on their likes and dislikes.

Children between the ages of 12 and 19 become more self conscious of their appearance and the condition of their teeth can play a conscious or subconscious role in developing their self esteem. Dr. Modrell emphasizes prevention and informs this age group of the importance of keeping their smiles bright and healthy.

Being a parent herself, she is always available to answer your questions. She is a good listener and is always willing to address parents' concerns or curiosities about their child’s dental health.
